Size : H6.1cm W9.6 - 12cm
A celadon small basin, crafted during the Goryeo dynasty.
The sides flare outward toward the rim, which is shaped like a six-petaled flower.
The outer edge is decorated with a carved pattern, created by making diagonal incisions.
The four sides of the body feature inlaid designs of chrysanthemums with leaves.
Three legs, each carved to resemble an animal’s face, support the vessel from near the base.
This style of simple, stylized animal expression is a hallmark of Goryeo celadon.
The areas where the legs make contact with the kiln surface are left unglazed.
The entire piece is coated in a pale-colored celadon glaze a thick, viscous glaze that exhibits a distinctive, crinkled texture on the underside.
Among the diverse array of forms found in Goryeo celadon, this particular type is quite rare.
There are no noticeable flaws or scratches. While there is some minor aging on parts of the surface, the piece as a whole retains a rich, lustrous sheen.Traces of a red liquid remain inside the vessel, indicating that it was actually used.
