Joseon Dynasty Buncheong Ware Gyeryongsan-type Lid and Jar with flower Design

A buncheong ware jar with a lid, fired during the Joseon Dynasty.
The clay body is coated with white slip, and floral designs are painted in iron pigment on two sides of the body and on the lid.
Except for the base, the entire piece is covered in a transparent glaze with a slight bluish tint.
Buncheong ware featuring iron-painted designs is commonly known as "Gyeryongsan-type", named after the location of the kilns at Hakbong-ri, at the foot of Mt. Gyeryong in Banpo-myeon, Gongju-gun, South Chungcheong Province.
The jar features a rounded, swelling body that tapers at the waist, and it has a flat base lacking a foot ring with sharply defined edges.
The gently domed lid is topped with a knob.
This piece exemplifies the classic "Gyeryongsan" jar shape, bearing the character that comes with age such jars were historically used for storing food or as funerary urns.

This piece is believed to be an excavated item, and its surface shows overall signs of weathering (patina).
However, this gives it a pleasing texture that complements the clay characteristic of Buncheong ware.
While small nicks or chips are visible on the edges of the base and lid, these are thought to have occurred during firing due to the nature of the coarse clay.
