Northern Southern Song Dynasty Jun Ware Blue glaze Water Pitcher with Red-Purple Spot

A blue-glazed water pitcher fired in the Jun ware during the Northern Song dynasty.
The top opening is shaped like a flower, and shallow grooves connect from the petals to the body, giving it a melon-like shape.
A gently curved spout is attached near the shoulder, and a large curved handle is attached on the opposite side.
Approximately the bottom third of the body is exposed, revealing the age of the clay.
The clay is well-dried, and the surface has cracks due to shrinkage, giving it a very distinctive texture.
The glaze is applied in two thin layers, suggesting that a thin glaze was applied first, followed by a layer of blue-gray glaze.
This blue-gray glaze appears darker at the rim and above the handle, where the clay shows through, while areas where the glaze tends to accumulate, such as grooves, appear whitish.
In addition, slight temperature differences cause subtle color variations in different areas, giving the blue glaze a variety of expressions.
A red-Purple glaze has been dripped around the base of the spout, creating a gorgeous mottled pattern. 
The mottled pattern is caused by kiln transformation, creating pale blue crystals in some areas, and the dripping red-purple glaze mixes with the blue-gray glaze, resulting in a beautiful gradient.
The various colors create a stunning scene reminiscent of both space and the ocean.

This is a relatively early example of Jun ware's Blue glaze.
Although the surface is aged, it has a nice texture that gives a sense of time passing.
