This celadon bottle was made at the official kiln during the Ming dynasty.
This item is called "Ru-ware-like" and is a type of ceramic made at the official kiln during the Ming dynasty to praise and imitate the Ru ware of the Northern Song dynasty.
The original Ru ware was a pale blue color like the sky after rain, also known as "rain after rain makes the sky blue," and this Ru-ware-like glaze captures that characteristic well.
A thick layer of glaze with a calm, opaque atmosphere is applied, and fine crackle-glazed areas are present throughout.
The rounded body has vertical bumps all the way to the neck, and is likened to a melon.
The neck is stepped, there are a pair of simply designed fish handles on the sides, and the mouth is wide and trumpet-shaped.
Because the glaze is applied all the way to the bottom, there are three needle marks left from when the bottle was fired to prevent it from sticking to the kiln, but this is also a characteristic of the Northern Song Ru ware.
This is a carefully crafted Ming Dynasty pottery piece, a beautiful piece whose understated decoration matches the subdued atmosphere of the glaze.
