Northern Song Dynasty Ru ware Celadon Jar with Flower Rim and Animal Design

This celadon vase was fired at the official Ru ware made the Northern Song dynasty.
The cylindrical body has slightly rounded shoulders and a large rounded waist with horizontal bow patterns.
The rim is an unusual design, carved into the shape of a pointed flower.
Slightly above the body are two abstract animal-shaped ears.
Animal are auspicious motifs that are associated with positive meanings such as peace and protection from evil.
The glaze of Ru ware celadon is a soft, milky light blue that has been likened to the moist sky after rain.
It is also characterized by a thin glassy texture, and the crackle-glazed surface is shallow and fine.
The foot has a low base and flares out at the end, and five nail marks remain on the base, where it was fired on a support.
The nail marks are smaller than a grain of rice and are evenly spaced, a characteristic of Ru ware.
The white shading seen on the glaze surface is thought to be due to the ingredients in the glaze, and gives off a fine, aged texture that is unique to Ru ware celadon.

There are some aged deterioration on the whole surface, but there is luster.
There is also some black discoloration on some parts of the surface due to aging.
However, there are no noticeable flaws and it is in good condition.
