Joseon Dynasty Bunwon Ware Underglazed Red Jar with Faceted Design

A Bunwon Ware red glaze jar fired in the late Joseon Dynasty.
During the Joseon Dynasty, white porcelain was only produced at official kilns, and Bunwon kilns produced ceramics for use during the dynasty.
The white porcelain produced there came to be called Bunwon Ware.
Bunwon Ware is the highest quality white porcelain, characterized by its solid thickness and weight, and its finish is very exquisite.
The chamfered edges join beautifully, and the corners are sharp yet smooth, with no unpleasant feeling on the fingers.
It is also carefully crafted from the inside out, and when you touch it from the shoulder to the base of the neck, there are no corners and it joins smoothly.
This is a very beautiful piece that is truly Bunwon Ware.
Stone marks remain on the bottom, a characteristic of Joseon white porcelain.
Unusually for Bunwon Ware, it has a pattern painted with underglaze red.
Underglaze red porcelain is a technique that uses copper as a coloring agent to paint red patterns, and it is said to be the culmination of a potter's experience, such as oxidizing the pigment and controlling the temperature of the kiln.
This item also has some of the pattern missing and only a small part of the color is visible, due to the high temperature at which it was fired.
