This is a black-glazed bottle fired in the mid-Goryeo period.
The glaze is a low-gloss jet black glaze, probably applied by brush.
The roughness of the clay and the uneven temperature of the fire give the piece a variety of different expressions in the black color.
It has a narrow bottom, bulging shoulders, and a long neck.
The neck is carved with very fine lines and has a deep, flat mouth.
It is thought to have been used in ceremonies as a sake vessel.
The bottom is unglazed, allowing the rough texture of the clay to be seen.
A simple, yet powerful and dignified black Goryeo bottle.
There is one chip on the rim. There are two other chips on the rim that were made during firing. There is also a chip on the bottom that was made during firing. (See photo)
The glaze was originally non-glossy, so the surface is faded in places, but it still has a nice old appearance.
