Joseon Dynasty White Porcelain Water Dropper with Underglaze Iron Brown
Period : Early Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897),Korea / 14-15C
Size : 7.8cm W10.2cm
This white porcelain water dropper was made in the early Joseon Dynasty.
It has a round body that is almost oval and sits on a wide, flared base.
There is a single hole of about 7mm at the top, which is used to let water in and out.
Water is stored inside the water dropper by submerging the entire body in water.
The clay is painted with fine-grained white mud, and the slightly yellowish surface resembles an egg.
Bold patterns of flowers and insects are painted on the top surface with iron pigment, and it is finished with a transparent glaze.
Originally this was a tool for pouring water when grinding ink with an inkstone, but as the hole is larger in diameter it could also be used as a vase for a single flower.
There are several chips on the bottom.Although the surface is slightly aged, It has a nice texture that makes you feel the passage of time.
