This is an Imari ware plate made in the early Edo period.
It is a slightly deep plate with a slight bulge in the centre and a flower-shaped opening that is slightly folded back.
In the centre of the plate is a circle dyed in indigo blue with a balanced depiction of a dragon and clouds in white.
Around this are three peony flowers and leaves engraved in fine relief in a regular pattern.
The curved rim is painted in indigo blue with alternating images of butterflies or dragonflies facing up and down.
The base is thin and evenly shaped, and on the inside is the inscription "Kakufuku" (lucky sign) written in irregular calligraphy in a square shape.
This is an eye-catching item with a large, eye-catching indigo circle and peony relief cleverly incorporated into the design.
There is no conspicuous flaws. The small chip in the indigo pigment in the center is a kiln mark.It has good luster throughout and is in good condition.
