Thailand Sangkalok Jarlet with Ring Handles
Thailand Sangkalok Jarlet with Ring Handles
Period : Sukhothai Kingdom(1238 – 1463),Thailand
Size : H9.5 W9.6cm
This jarlet was fired after the 14th century during the Sukhothai Dynasty in Thailand.
It is a representative type of ceramic from the ancient kiln Suwankalok and is known as Sangkalok.
The body bulges sideways, and patterns are carved into the waist and shoulders with a spatula.
The mouth is small but the rim is thick and has two circular ears.
The soil is exposed from the waist down, and the thin ash glaze leaves a faint green behind the white color.
It is finely crackle-glazed and has good glaze deterioration, giving it an old texture.
It is made on the thick side overall, and at 296g it feels heavy and substantial for its size.
Even among Sangkalok, which often have distorted shapes, this is a very fine item that is well-balanced.
The chips on the bottom were made during firing and do not extend to the inside. There are a few small chips on the corners of the bottom. There is aged deterioration on the overall surface.
