Southern Song Dynasty Ge ware Celadon Jarlet with Bronze-ware-style shape
Period : Southern Song dynasty,China(1127 - 1279) / 12C
Size : H10.9cm W12cm
This celadon vase was made at a Ge ware during the Southern Song dynasty.
It has a small base and a rounded, bulging body that widens like a trumpet towards the rim.
This imitates the shape of ancient Chinese bronze vessels used as ritual vessels.
It is thick and heavy, and becomes thinner towards the rim.
The glaze applied to the entire inside and outside is a pale green-blue with a dull shine, and it has large crackle glazes unique to Ge kilns.
It is double crackle glazed, and the light brown crazes are caused by natural soil seeping in, while the more pronounced crazes are created by rubbing in black powder to create color.
This type of finishing is unique to Ge ware.
The foot is made thin like the Southern Song official kilns, and the glaze is applied all the way to the inside of the foot.
The distinct crackle glaze emphasizes the three-dimensionality of the surface, giving this celadon a unique texture that can only be found at Ge ware.
There is no conspicuous flaws. It is in good condition with a moist luster overall. There is some discoloration on the inside of the bottom and on some of the sides of the bottom.Comes with a wooden storage box.
