Joseon Dynasty White Glaze Spiral Bottom Tea Bowl
Joseon Dynasty White Glaze Spiral Bottom Tea Bowl
Period : Late Joseon Dynasty(1392 - 1897),Korea / 18-19C
Size : H8.9cm W15cm
A white porcelain tea bowl fired in the late Joseon dynasty.
A type of Goryeo tea bowl, it is known as a "tamagode tea bowl" due to its construction and glaze surface that resembles an egg.
It is slightly large and rounded, tapering towards the rim and a shape that feels very comfortable in the hand.
The glaze surface is yellowish and feels soft and warm, with fine crazing throughout.
A thick layer of glaze has accumulated in the tea reservoir, and the glaze drips beside the foot shine with a yellowish glow that resembles glass beads.
Of particular note is the foot, which is made in a spiral pattern, a rare design for a tamagode tea bowl.
Although it may appear simple, this tea bowl is enjoyable from any angle, from the glaze surface, clay, and bottom.
Comes with a wooden box and cover. It has good luster throughout and is in good condition.
The chips on the rim have been repaired with resin (one on the medium size, four on the small size). There is also one small chip that has not been repaired.
The area on the bottom with a different earth color is thought to be where scratches from firing were filled in.
