Yuan Dynasty Longquan Celadon Censer with Lion-Shaped
Yuan Dynasty Longquan Celadon Censer with Lion-Shaped
Period : Yuan Dynasty,China(1271 - 1368)
Size : H18.4cm W9.9-15.8cm
Celadon Censer fired in the Longquan kiln during the Yuan Dynasty.
It is shaped like a lion and is divided above the neck to form a lid, and the inside of the body is hollow to allow incense to enter.
The incense smoke that accumulates inside the body resembles rising from the lion's mouth.
The lion's fur is drawn in spiral patterns, and the fur on the chest, claws, legs, and tail are detailed.
The face is also very well made, with a three-dimensional and powerful nose, beautifully erect ears, forehead hair, mouth wrinkles, and even the fangs.
The light brown clay is covered with a light and clear celadon glaze with devitrification typical of the Longquan kilns of the Yuan period, and the pattern stands out in white depending on the shading, creating a three-dimensional effect on the surface.
The lion-shaped censer is a design that has been created for a long time as a guardian deity, but there are few in good condition from before the Yuan dynasty, making it a very rare item.
There is no conspicuous flaws. It has good luster throughout and is in good condition.Comes with a wooden storage box.
