Southern Song Dynasty Guan ware Celadon Vase with Calabash Shape
Southern Song Dynasty Guan ware Celadon Vase with Calabash Shape
Period : Southern Song dynasty,China(1127 - 1279) / 12-13C
Size : H18cm W12.1cm
A celadon bottle fired in the Southern Song Official kiln.
A bottle imitating the shape of Calabash is one of the shapes made in the Southern Song dynasty.
The lower part is round and bulges sideways, the upper part is downwardly swollen and narrows toward the top, and the mouth is open so that it narrows.
The constriction that connects the upper and lower parts is very thin.
The installation surface of the bottom is thin, about 2 mm, like a government kiln, and the black soil containing iron peculiar to the government kiln is exposed.
The entire surface is covered with a thick grayish-green-blue glaze, giving it a beautiful grainy feel, with large intrusions along the surface of the sphere.
It is thought that it was a bottle with a narrow mouth for sake or water, but it also looks good as a flower vase.
There is no conspicuous flaws. It has good luster throughout and is in good condition.
