Goryeo Jarlet
Goryeo Jarlet
Period : Goryeo Dynasty,Korea(918 - 1392) / 12-13C
Size : H9.2cm W13.6cm
Jarlet made in the Goryeo Dynasty.
It has a well-proportioned design typical of the Goryeo dynasty and is shaped like an abacus ball.
The edge has a round and soft impression.
This kind of shape was made in various sizes, and in Japan, the small, almost cylindrical ones were also used as tea bowls.
This jarlet is rather large and was used to store seasonings and pickled plums.
The gray-black body clay is made to leave the streaks of the potter's wheel, and the soil is exposed from the waist down.
White clay is applied from the body to the top, and yellowish transparent glaze is applied from the top to the waist on both the inner and outer sides.
The transparent glaze is thought to have been applied by dipping, leaving traces of fingers.
There is some peeling of the glaze, but on the contrary, it enhances the simplicity of the work and makes it tasteful.
Since it is a Jarlet with a simple shape, it can be used not only for its original purpose, but also as a flower vase.
There are two chip in the rim.The other part is covered with glaze, which is a flaw from firing. It has good luster throughout and is in good condition.
