Southern Song Dynasty Cizhou Ware figurines with Underglaze Iron Brown
Period : Southern Song dynasty,China(1127 - 1279) / 12C
Size : H7cm W8.3cm
A figurine made in the Cizhou ware during the Southern Song dynasty.
In addition to daily necessities, the Cizhou ware also produced many figurines and dolls as toys.
The technique of expressing black patterns on a white background under the glaze was devised with reference to the ink painting technique.
On top of the white slip, a pattern is drawn with a brush with a pigment rich in iron, and a transparent glaze is applied from above.
Although it is a rough form that omits details for simplicity, the fur and face of the bird are skillfully depicted with iron painting.
Hairlines crack on the bottom side but only on the surface. It has good luster throughout and is in good condition.
