Northern Song Dynasty Ding Ware Black-glaze Bowl with Butterfly Design
Period : Northern Song dynasty,China(960 - 1127) / 10-11C
Size : H4.2cm W12.8cm
A Ding ware bowl made in the Northern Song dynasty.
Ding ware black-glazed ceramics were perfected in the Northern Song Dynasty, and their beauty is like lacquer.
Compared to the white porcelain of the Ding ware, there were fewer of them and they were prized.
Using the same clay as the white porcelain of Ding ware, the white clay contrasts with the jet-black glaze.
A pair of butterflies are carved into the front face, and the lines are delicate, white and clear, showing a scenery that is not found in Ding ware white porcelain.
The rim of the oval vessel is shaped like a flower mouth, making it three-dimensional and comfortable to the touch.
There is no conspicuous flaws. There is a small aged deterioration on the surface, but overall it is luster and in good condition.
