Northern Song Dynasty Yue ware Celadon Spittoon
Northern Song Dynasty Yue ware Celadon Spittoon
Period : Northern Song dynasty,China(960 - 1127) / 10C
Size : H7.4cm W15.9cm
A celadon Spittoon made in Yuezhou kilns during the Northern Song dynasty. It was a vessel for spitting saliva and sputum as a furnishing for Chinese aristocrats.
Because it loses practicality later, Spittoon will not be made as the times become new. A vase shape with a rounded body and a wide funnel-shaped mouth. The mouth is engraved with a flower pattern, which is both bold and beautiful.
An elegant celadon glaze with pale olive color characteristic of the Yuezhou kiln is applied all the way to the inside of the pot.
Ceramics with this shape are very valuable items.
There are small hairlines crack on the rim. There is aged deterioration on the entire surface, but there is some luster.
