A celadon jar made in the Yue ware during the Northern Song dynasty.
It is thought to have been used as a ritual vessel, and the renben crest is carved on the top and bottom of the round, swollen body.
It has a lid, which is similarly decorated with a renben crest, and has a knob on the tip that imitates a calyx.
Celadon porcelain from the Yue ware from the Tang dynasty onwards has an olive-colored glaze, with a particularly strong yellow tint, and is thought to have been produced in the early Northern Song dynasty.
There is a chip on the bottom, the edge of the lid, and the back side of the lid.
This is an excavated item. There is aged deterioration on the overall surface.
There are places where the glaze has peeled off, exposing the soil.
